Gallel also exhibited a landscape at the charity exhibition set up in shop windows in 1879 to help the victims of the Murcia flood. Gallel was a prolific scenographer. In 1868 he collaborated with Antonio García and José Brel on the staging of Rafael Liern’s fantastic comedy, El laurel de plata, at the Princesa Theatre. Gallel painted three of the five scenographies that debuted in the show: those for the Palace of Wealth, the Abode of Joy and the Field of Grain. In 1873 he painted the scenographies for the zarzuela Sueños de oro, performed at the Teatro Principal, with José Brel, Antonio Cortina and Pedro Noguera. Among Gallel’s works are the View of a Village, the Apparition of the Three Roads, a scenography depicting a lake and the Beauty Cabinet. For La fiesta del hogar, staged in 1876 at the Teatro de Ruzafa, Gallel painted a Nativity Scene that included a wide view of an Oriental landscape. In 1877 he took the post of scenographer at the Teatro Principal, with the assistance of Pedro Noguera. A year later, he achieved great success with the scenographies for the zarzuela Sueños de oro (Dreams of Gold), in particular those for the Lake, the Palace of Wealth, the Palace of Beauty and the Final Apotheosis. In 1879 he staged the zarzuela La guerra santa (The Holy War) at the Teatro Apolo; among the scenographies, the Lake Baikal stood out. In the same year, he painted seven of the eight new scenographies for the zarzuela El salto del pasiego (The Jump of the Pasiego), which debuted at the Teatro Principal, while Ricardo Alós painted the remaining ones. In 1880 Gallel painted tempera portraits, mounted in medallions, of the musicians Barbieri, Gaztambide, Arrieta and Caballero for the ceiling of the Teatro de la Princesa. In that theater he staged works such as La guerra santa and El salto del pasiego, collaborating on the latter with Alós. Both scenographers collaborated on the zarzuela La abadía del Rosario, staged at the Teatro Apolo, where the View of the Bay of Martinique was particularly notable. Gallel and Alós, together with José Calvo Verdonces, decorated the magical comedy Los polvos de la madre Celestina at the Teatro Principal. Gallel, Alós and Brel joined forces to create a scenography for El rosal de la belleza by Liern at the Teatro de la Princesa.
