Josh Sperling - DIAMOND IN THE WILDERNESS

Work by the famous contemporary artist Josh Sperling issued following his exhibition at Perrotin Paris in 2022. Edition of 100 copies, signed and numbered by the artist, depicting one of his sculptures. Copy kept away from light. Josh Sperling aligns with the tradition of minimalist painting from the 1960s and 1970s, and the “shaped canvases.” He uses intricate plywood cutouts on which a canvas is stretched and then painted with a palette of saturated colors that sometimes clash. His three-dimensional work tends to erase the boundaries between painting and sculpture, between image and object. Drawing on references from design as well as art history, Sperling has designed a unique visual language recognizable for its expressionism and its uncontrollable energy.
