Julian Lethbridge was born in Sri Lanka and grew up, mainly in, England before moving to New York. He studied at Winchester College and Cambridge University. Known for his abstract paintings and drawings, Lethbridge often uses mathematical and natural patterns, building up layers of pigment before cutting or marking into the surface. His earlier work focused, mainly on, black and white, while his later paintings introduced brighter colours and looser brushwork. His work has been, exhibited, widely across the US and Europe and is held in major collections including the Tate, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. There is a small area in the extreme upper right corner where a little white paint obscures the black border, however in our opinion this appears to be original rather than a later issue with condition.
