Julius von Blaas (1845–1922) – Horse Study Interesting equestrian study by Julius von Blaas (Albano 1845 – Bad Hall 1922), Austrian painter belonging to the famous von Blaas family and particularly known for equestrian subjects. The work depicts a horse seen in profile, rendered with a concise and immediate painting, especially attentive to the anatomical structure, the posture, and the reflections of the coat. The background, treated with green and brown tones, brings the animal’s figure to the fore and gives the painting the character of a study done from life. On the back there are still labels and numbers relating to the previous auction sale, as well as an old stamp on the canvas, elements that contribute to documenting the history and provenance of the work. The painting appears in its gilded frame, which well complements the historical character of the work. Photos of the front and back are an integral part of the description and allow direct assessment of its condition. A work of particular interest to collectors of Austrian painting from the 19th to the 20th century and of equestrian subjects.
