July 12

July 12, 1943 Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and others autographed baseball from "Mayor Tobin Field Day" with related photograph. Spalding F.Frick Official National League baseball has been signed by Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Rabbit Maranville, Dom DiMaggio, and Maurice J. Tobin. All have signed in fountain pen with PSA grading the Ruth signature "7" and Williams an "8." Others average 8 out of 10. Tobin was then the Mayor of Boston and held an annual charity event at Fenway Park, known as "Tobin Field Day", to raise money for underprivileged youth. The 1943 event was an historic occasion as Babe Ruth made an appearance, squared off against Ted Willims in a home run hitting contest (won by Williams), and managed a team of military servicemen in an exhibition game against the Boston Braves (thus accounting for an NL ball being in an AL park). The day saw 12,000 spectators crowd Fenway as witness and was widely covered in period newspapers. An included 8"x10" sepia tone photograph shows Ruth and Williams in uniform and enjoying a lighthearted moment. Ink notations on the back were done at the time and list their names and the date. Ball displays use and soiling and the photo has wrinkling and some other wear throughout. An historic pair with fantastic back story. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA (with "Overall grade: 6.5" noted): VG-EX
