Alle Auktionen / Zeitgenössische Kunst / K.milla - "The Unbearable Height of Being" - Giraffe
This striking acrylic painting is part of a minimalist series in which bold, graphic color fields are combined with small, hyper-realistic details. An dark brown field fills the lower half of the canvas, while a red orange sky opens up above it. A lonely giraffe rises on the horizon — a delicate, element that contrasts with the clean, graphic surfaces surrounding it. The work reflects the artist’s background in graphic design, where clarity, composition and color harmony are essential. By combining large, simplified planes with a delicate natural subject, the artist creates a refined tension between stillness and motion, minimalism and detail. The spacious composition evokes freedom, silence and contemplation—qualities that make this piece not only visually appealing but also emotionally resonant. K.milla (1976) is a Dutch artist known for blending design sensibilities with painterly storytelling. This artwork is a strong example of that signature style—modern, atmospheric and highly decorative, while maintaining artistic depth. A unique and contemporary artwork that stands out effortlessly and enhances both modern and classic interiors. - Technique: acrylic painting on canvas - Dimensions: (height) 55 × (width) 75 cm - Framed dimensions: sold without frame. The paintings are characterized by large, minimalist color fields combined with a single carefully rendered animal or bird, creating a quiet tension between abstraction and narrative. The horizon-like division between the planes gives the works a sense of stillness, space and contemplation. Before focusing on painting, K.milla worked for more than 25 years as a graphic designer and illustrator at the Dutch design studio 2 MAAL EE. As creative work became increasingly digital, the artist felt a growing desire to reconnect with tactile materials, craftsmanship and the physical process of painting. K.milla graduated in Graphic Design from St. Joost School of Art & Design and is self-taught as a painter. This combination of formal design training and intuitive painterly exploration results in works that balance precision with atmosphere, and simplicity with emotional depth.
