Karaktervolle meerschuimpijp in passend etui – H

Characterful meerschaum pipe in appropriate case – H. Van Ballaert, Brussels – circa 1900 A atmospheric collectible from the world of historical smoking culture: this elegant meerschaum pipe combines a tall, slender bowl with a long stem and a warm amber-colored, marbled mouthpiece. The cream-colored meerschaum shows pronounced honey-yellow and brown-orange nuances, giving the pipe a particularly well-worn appearance. Meerschaum was a beloved material for refined tobacco pipes in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The light, porous material can gradually discolor during smoking, so every used pipe develops its own character. An attractive detail is the closely fitting case, with a dark, velvety interior and a light-colored lid lining. Inside this is the historic inscription: H. Van Ballaert – Fabt de Pipes – 88 Bould. Anspach-Bourse – Bruxelles This inscription clearly links the piece to Brussels and adds extra collecting value to the presentation. The presumed dating is around 1900, possibly already in the last decades of the nineteenth century. Features * Meerschaum pipe with a high bowl and elongated shape. * Amber-colored, marbled mouthpiece; exact material not established. * Case shaped to fit with the inscription H.
