Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained prominence in 2009 with his One Dollar sculptures, ranking that year among the ten best sculptors under 30 according to Artprice. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its book FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the French president warmly congratulated Karl for his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais. Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, encouraged by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. Artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo exhibition in 2006 at the Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition combining paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin. Karl especially enjoys unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One. The following year, he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo exhibition at Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works to the international press. (Repeated paragraphs about Karl Lagasse’s biography and list of exhibitions continue, including a detailed chronology from 2026 back to 2003, highlighting major installations, awards, and exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and beyond, as well as references to collaborations with Maserati and various film and art festivals.) Karl Lagasse continues to innovate and inspire through his art, leaving a significant mark in the world of contemporary art. Karl Lagasse is part of the contemporary street art movement, in the vein of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kaws, Invader, Swoon, Os Gemeos and Blu. He is also aligned with the pop art lineage alongside Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, Kaws, Damien Hirst, Richard Prince, and Cindy Sherman.
