Kora - Serving dish - Brass, Silverplated

Bread basket or service tray in silver-plated metal Estimated age: Early 20th century (around 1900-1940) Materials: Silver-plated metal on a brass or copper base Style: Neo-Rococo (Louis XV revisited) Origin: Probably France or England Historical significance: These platters were essential elements of the French service during bourgeois receptions, symbolizing social status and the refinement of the table in the Edwardian era or at the beginning of the last century. The edge decorated with scroll motifs is typical of Rococo style, which experienced a massive revival in popularity during the Belle Époque. The technical term for the relief on the rim is 'godronné' or 'ornementation en côtes'. Visible wear in the center indicates that the object was frequently used to present pastries or bread, reflecting its everyday domestic use.
