HISTORY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Built by the Spanish company Metalúrgica de Santa Ana (Santana) under Land Rover license, the long-wheelbase Series II/III (109 inches) is one of the most iconic and recognizable off-road vehicle platforms of the 20th century. This 1972 unit combines the classic aesthetics of the early series with a substantial mechanical update focused on practical, refined use. The car is located in Madrid, Spain, and stands out for its emblematic “Safari” style with a canvas roof. BODYWORK/PAINT: The vehicle was painted in 2024 in the classic Marine Blue. The paint is in excellent overall condition, with minor details typical of a restored and used vehicle following its refurbishment. It features a complete sand-toned canvas roof in good condition. It is equipped with spare wheel mountings on both the hood and the rear door. The rubber seals on the windows, the windscreens, and all lighting groups (indicators and front/rear light housings) have been replaced with new parts. The chassis and lower structure are solid and restored. INTERIOR: The cabin has been updated while respecting the original design and configured for 9 seats. The rear cargo and passenger floor are finished with synthetic wood. The rear side seats and the front three-seat bench are upholstered in beige/sand vinyl or synthetic leather in excellent condition. It retains the original Series II three-spoke steering wheel. The instrument cluster features period gauges centered with the characteristic mechanical controls of the era. The vehicle maintains a simple electrical system and is without heating or air conditioning to preserve classic authenticity. MECHANICS: Under the hood sits the Land Rover Turbo diesel engine, offering higher performance and torque than the naturally aspirated versions. The transmission has been updated with a 5-speed manual gearbox sourced from a Land Rover Defender. The suspension has been replaced with a kit of parabolic springs, along with new shocks and bushings. The braking system includes a conversion to disc brakes on the front axle. Maintenance work highlights include a new cooling radiator installed a year ago, an additional oil cooler, replaced steering joints, a full new exhaust system, and injectors installed in 2025 with a revised injector pump. It is supplied with freshly changed engine and differential oils, along with new air and fuel filters.
