Large and heavy hand-carved elephant statue - 5.6 kg - Kingwood

Giant and heavily carved vintage carved elephant statue from India, dating circa 1960-1980. The statue is handcrafted from a single solid block of high-quality rosewood (Sheesham wood) and features beautifully inlaid details of bone (including the eyes, toe nails and the loosely-set/glued tusks - explicitly no ivory). The wood carving is smoothly polished and finished with hand-engraved details for the skin texture. The ears are nicely free-standing carved. • Condition: In good vintage condition with normal signs of use and a lovely patina for its age. There is a small, superficial lacquer damage/scratch on the flank (see photos). Otherwise fully intact and stable, with no cracks or restorations. • Origin: India • Dimensions: H 30 cm x L 35 cm x W 16 cm • Weight: 5600 g (5.6 kg) • Shipping method: The lot is carefully and securely packed and shipped with registered/insured tracking and tracing.
