Le Yack - Room Service, Off Duty - Hand signed

In the corridor of a grand hotel, a chambermaid leaned against the wood paneling. White cap, night-blue uniform, polka-dot stockings and garter belt, she holds a champagne bucket on her tray. A cigarette at her lips, she looks us straight in the eyes. The client will wait. It is the heroine of Octave Mirbeau's The Diary of a Chambermaid, whom Buñuel brought to the screen with Jeanne Moreau in 1964: the one who sees everything, knows everything, and says nothing. LeYack paints her in this stolen moment between two doors, insolent and sovereign, far from the role we expect of her. Warm woodwork, cold blues of the corridor, the silvery gleam of the bucket: a bold canvas, full of humor and provocation.
