Lucien Fontanarosa (1912-1975), French painter and illustrator. Venice, the gondolier, September 1973. Gouache, pencil and red chalk on paper. Dedicated, signed and dated by hand on the lower edge: 'to Yves Guérin, very sincerely, September 1973', signed 'Fontanarosa'. A Venetian gondolier in a striped shirt, standing at his oar in the foreground, a second gondola to the right, and the domes of Santa Maria della Salute in a warm ochre light. First Grand Prix of Rome (1936) and member of the Institute (1955), Fontanarosa made Venice and the gondolier one of his favorite subjects. Provenance: Yves Guérin's Book of Honor, compiled between 1963 and 1992. Dimensions: sheet 29.7 x 21 cm, image full sheet. Condition: good. Not framed.
