Born in La Plata in 1915, he began by working as a house painter while taking evening classes. He then joined the National School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredón, followed by the Superior School Ernesto de la Carcova in Buenos Aires, where he initially practiced figurative art. In 1951, during his first stay in Europe, he discovered Mondrian’s work as well as the light of the stained glass in Chartres Cathedral, a major aesthetic shock. He settled permanently in Paris in 1957, immersing himself in the avant-garde alongside artists like Marino di Teana. It is there that he abandoned figuration to turn toward three-dimensional geometric abstraction. He developed his most famous series, Chromoplastic Atmospheres, characterized by wooden reliefs fixed to white panels. These cubes or geometric shapes, painted in bright colors on their hidden faces, project a changing color reflection onto the white background according to the viewing angle. By subtly manipulating shadow, natural light, and chromatic reflection, he creates an illusion of continuous, immaterial movement. His innovations earned him international recognition and his works are included in prestigious collections around the world. He continued to create and evolve his kinetic structures until the end of his life.
