Luminous birch trees in the moor - Gary Westall

Luminous birch trees in the moor by Gary Westall Painting 11.8 x 15.8 :: This picture is part of my series ‘Happy and grateful walking in the moor’. I found the inspiration right there in the moor. I photographed the scene during a walk because I was particularly impressed by how the birch leaves shone like a beacon in the light. This intense golden glow emerged between the dark tree trunks and the warm earthy tones – it was precisely this contrast that inspired me to paint. The reflection in the water plays an important role. It absorbs the light intensifies it and at the same time brings calm to the composition. Forms dissolve slightly colours become softer and a quiet balanced mood is created. For me this motif represents a special moment of awareness. Being out in the moor means noticing such rays of light – and that is precisely what gives me a feeling of happiness and gratitude. Signed: bottom left. The work can be hung immediately.
