Luxurious Vintage Creoles With Rubies & Diamonds in Gold, c. 1985

The 1980s were a time of optimism and abundance. The oil crisis seemed to be over, Wall Street was flourishing; people sipped cocktails and paid by credit card, everything seemed possible. At the same time, a new image of women emerged. Self-confident and tough, asserting herself at work, in the face of men, successful, with broad shoulder pads and high heels. Based on the book "Dress for Success" published in 1975, the woman of the time dressed in a way that carried these qualities to the outside world. She adorned herself with rings, necklaces and brooches of hitherto unusual dimensions, with mirrored surfaces of yellow gold and rich trimmings of coloured gemstones and diamonds. A successful woman in business and society, she preferred to wear large statement pieces that fit close to the body and were therefore suitable for her profession, rather than long chains or delicate bracelets. The present pair of ear clips is a typical piece of jewellery from this decade and is made of particularly high-quality materials. The wide hoop earrings are made of high-carat gold. In their center, they each present a ruby cabochon framed by a wreath of white diamonds. The ear clips are wide and heavy: powerful statement pieces. The well-preserved clips came to us with an identical pair with sapphires from an extensive collection in Hamburg.
