Map Grothausen-Musch (1914-2000) - Bronzen Paard in Draf

Map Grothausen-Musch, sculptor Born in Amsterdam 1914-2000 Map Musch received her training in Epsom, England at the School of Art and with sculptor Johan Limpers. She exhibited, among others, in Amsterdam at Ina Broers and at Sphinx, and for the chapel of the St-Lucas Hospital she created a tabernacle. In the municipality of Duiven there is a 3-part outdoor plastic with a horse-dog-child figure by her. Origin: Private collection of the artist. White marble, 5 cm thick base plate heavy. Her work, consisting of child figures, horses, golfers and dancers, is naturalistic and shows a very sensitive expression of controlled mobility. On the tail is hand-signed by the artist. In sculpture material, bronze, the figures gain extra relief. In principle, her work is not for sale. BRONZE; An alloy of copper with other metals (especially tin) that has been used since antiquity. When casting bronze, artists usually apply the lost-wax technique, which is more than 5000 years old. It is the best, but also the most complex method for producing statues. First, the artist forms a model of his sculpture. It is embedded in a liquid mixture of silicone rubber. As soon as the material has solidified, the model is cut out. The liquid wax is poured into the negative mold. After cooling, the wax cast is removed from the mold, equipped with runners and dipped in ceramic slurry. The ceramic slurry is cured in an oven, and the wax flows out (lost-wax process). Now we finally have the negative mold, into which the 1400-degree Celsius hot molten bronze is cast. After the bronze has cooled, the ceramic shell is broken away and the statue is revealed. Now the bushings are removed, the surfaces polished, patinated and numbered by the artist himself or, according to his specifications, by a specialist. Thus each casting becomes an original work. For bronze casting of lower quality, the sand-casting method is often used, which, however, in terms of surface properties and quality does not achieve the results of the more complex lost-wax technique.
