Pieter- Hendrik Zuidema, Head of Chagall Research Centre WUYT Dear Sir, Yesterday your etching was thoroughly studied. The signature by initials matches exactly. The numbering 29/100 is completely correct: Chagall drew and numbered exactly 100 out of all 105 biblical plates at the publisher Tériade's request, from 1/100 to 100/100. This is therefore his 29th coloring of the biblical plate: "David weeps for Absalom". The print itself is, without a doubt, a reliable example of the original plate "David weeps for Absalom", of which 100 impressions were printed in total. From the same plate, 295 copies were printed on Montval paper; these are not colored. On the back side of your 29/100 etching you will see the plate number namely 73 (of the 105 plates in the Bible series). Congratulations on this original hand-coloured Chagall etching!
