He began painting in 2017 through the Tennant Creek Men's Centre art program, which evolved into the acclaimed Tennant Creek Brio collective, and has worked with Arlpwe Art and Culture Centre since 2020. This monumental painting, MC152023, exemplifies Marcus's distinctive approach to abstraction, characterised by bold geometric structures, expressive brushwork and an intuitive interplay between colour and form. His compositions typically begin with loosely painted borders and intersecting lines that establish a framework, before paint is brushed, pushed and poured across the canvas. The resulting forms create a dynamic tension between structure and spontaneity, inviting the viewer to consider the work as both a physical surface and an abstract space. His paintings have drawn comparisons with the colour field compositions of Mark Rothko and the gestural abstraction of Australian artist Tony Tuckson, while also recalling the visual language of Central Desert ceremonial body painting. At nearly two and a half metres wide, MC152023 demonstrates the immersive scale that has become an important feature of his practice. Since emerging with the Tennant Creek Brio, Double O has gained considerable recognition. His work featured in the 22nd Biennale of Sydney, NIRIN, in 2020, and he presented his first solo exhibition at 8 Hele in Alice Springs in 2024. His paintings are held in significant collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Araluen Art Centre and Foundation Opale in Switzerland, reflecting his growing reputation within contemporary Australian First Nations art.
