Maréchal de STAINVILLE, Jacques Philippe de CHOISEUL (Lunévi - Lot 131

Maréchal de STAINVILLE, Jacques Philippe de CHOISEUL (Lunéville/ Meurthe-et-Moselle 1727 - Strasbourg 1789) Comte, then in 1786, Duc de Choiseul-Stainville, Baron de Demange, Militaire, Lieutenant-général des Armées du Roy, Maréchal de France in 1783, Gouverneur général de l'Alsace - Letter signed "STAINVILLE", Paris, January 19, 1769, to Madame La Mire de Chatenay. 3 pages in-8° : "I am very sensitive, Madame, to your wishes for me on the occasion of the New Year... I will not lose sight of opportunities to be useful to your son, whose conduct I am very pleased with. With regard to the lack of comfort you say he finds in his job, I am surprised that the pension he combines with the remuneration he receives does not seem to be enough for him. There are many officers in the Corps who are far from having the same advantages as he does. As for the Titles mislaid in your family papers, my brother can do nothing in this respect, and it is to a Genealogist that you must continue your solicitations to repair this omission. I beg you, Madame, to recommend to your son not to lose sight of the purpose of the recruits, and especially of the conditions I have prescribed for this operation. I thank you, Madame, for the deer you have kindly sent me, and I am respectfully, Madame, your most humble and obedient servant."
