Explanation: in the cel animation technique the creator draws the moving parts of the animation on transparent sheets, or "cels". 24 cells are needed for one second of animation. The advantage is that fewer drawings are needed, because the cels for the same movement can be reused. At the beginning of the last century cel animation was invented in America. Animated films became a market product thanks to Walt Disney, which had to be produced quickly. To save time, the technique was devised whereby the moving parts and non-moving parts of the drawing could be separated from each other. The animation is first drawn in pencil (line drawing) and then placed on a clear transparent sheet (cel). Because of the transparency, multiple layers can be worked on top of each other. On December 1, 2010 the cultural heritage of Marten Toonder (all work that Marten Toonder himself made) was officially transferred by the heirs to the Letterkundig Museum Leiden and has since been the property of the Dutch State. In November 2018 the archive of the Marten Toonder Studios was donated to the Literatuurmuseum in The Hague and the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. See the last photo. Because of the above developments it is unlikely that original work by Marten Toonder himself and Marten Toonder Studios will be offered on the market from this heritage. Very unique that the eyes have not yet been drawn in, which of course is very special. The cell is also much larger than normal. See photo 4 screenshot of the specific scene from the film. This cell (preserved, because many cells were destroyed at the time) was made by Marten Toonder Studios and was indeed used for the film. A magnificent piece of animation art. The film cell measures 38.5 x 26.5 cm and the pencil drawing measures 33 x 26.7 cm. This cell will be shipped to the new owner in maximum-protection packaging by registered mail.
