Mask - colonial - DR Congo (No reserve price)

This sale offers a collection of works from the studio of a Belgian painter, brought together over time as a result of his discoveries, encounters and affinities. The artists have often maintained a privileged connection with the arts from Africa and beyond: sensitive to the force of forms, the simplicity of volumes and the expressiveness of materials, they were among the first to look at these objects differently than as mere curiosities. Their eye, naturally attentive to lines and balance, led them to collect these works and, at times, to draw inspiration from them. This collection thus bears witness to an intimate dialogue between artistic creation, the collector’s gaze and a fascination with forms from elsewhere.
