Maxime Blachere - Octopus 2

even if he admits finding squid salad quite delicious, the artist aims to raise awareness about ecology and species extinction. Octopus 2 is a iconic work by BLACH (Maxime Blachère), blending urban art, humor, and contemporary engagement. This monumental octopus, fully covered in graffiti, embodies an explosion of colors, signs, and references drawn from street art culture. A deliberate wink to COP21, the work upends militant codes with irony, in reference to graffiti artist COPE2, a recognized figure in graffiti. The painted messages play with language: ABAB instead of ACAB, RIB instead of RIP, 1-2-1-2, I was here, all of them ironic shifts. We also find the détourned signature of the famous graffiti artist PAPI 183 (Taky 183), integrated as a playful homage to the history of graffiti. The squid symbolizes nature, the proliferation of ideas, and human influence on the oceans, treated here with humor and self-deprecation. Each tentacle tells a story, between controlled visual chaos and dynamic composition. The contrast between the oceanic background and the graphic saturation strengthens the visual impact of the work. Octopus 2 is a strong piece, both engaged, pop, and provocative. An ideal work for collectors sensitive to contemporary urban art, perfect for highlighting on Catawiki.
