Small treasures bearing the traces of history Beautiful Medieval Christian Bronze Pendant – Five Holy Wounds of Christ – Rare Devotional Symbolism Description This beautiful bronze pendant features an exceptional circular composition distinguished by five concentric ring-and-dot motifs, each enclosing a pronounced central boss. The arrangement offers a compelling parallel to the medieval Christian devotion to the Five Holy Wounds of Christ, known in Latin as Quinque Vulnera Christi, commemorating the wounds of the hands, feet and side during the Crucifixion. Comparable fivefold devotional compositions are preserved in the London Museum's collection of medieval pilgrim badges, while Byzantine bronze crosses documented by Christie's and TimeLine Auctions illustrate related concentric ornamentation. The substantial disc retains its integral suspension loop, clearly defined circular motifs and a small aperture beside the central design.
