Megalodon - Fossil tooth - 12 cm - 10.5 cm

An impressive and characterful Otodus megalodon from North Carolina, with a powerful broad crown, a heavily mineralized root, and a beautiful natural appearance. The crown has a soft cream to light green enamel, in which the natural vertical growth lines are clearly visible. The fine, densely packed serrations are well preserved along the cutting edges and emphasize the imposing shape of this prehistoric shark tooth. A particularly interesting detail are the clearly visible bite marks on the tooth. These natural damages and impressions give the fossil extra character and form a fascinating part of its history. They show that this tooth was exposed to natural mechanical forces after its formation and during its fossilization process. It is precisely these traces that make the specimen unique and give it a story that you won’t see in a perfectly undamaged tooth. The very broad, dark root forms a strong contrast with the light crown. The natural mineralization, rough texture and color variations in the root make the tooth interesting to look at from both sides.
