Introduced in the late 1970s, the 560 SL represents one of the most powerful versions of the range, equipped with a refined 5.6-liter V8 engine. The specimen offered at auction is a 1986 model and preserves a particularly interesting configuration, with the original Signal Red color, a body largely with factory paint, black soft-top, and the original color-matching hardtop, and a clean, incident-free history from day one. It is also already homologated with European German documents and equipped with its technical certificate (equivalent to a COC). EXTERIOR The bodywork largely retains the factory original paint in the sought-after Signal Red color. The car presents today in beautiful overall condition, with a wonderful patina of a car never fully restored but well preserved. The chrome work is in excellent condition, as are the front grille, the rubber seals, and all original details. Only minimal signs of age, localized imperfections, and slight color differences, all consistent with the age and with the preservation of the original paint. The factory original soft-top opens easily and shows only light, minimal signs of age. The car also includes the rare, factory-color hardtop. An ultrasonic test confirmed values consistent with the original paint and with no signs of a reported accident. The undercarriage is generally solid and very well preserved, with no accident signs, thanks to its initial life in Southern California. INTERIOR The cabin is complete with leather seats and well preserved, showing a nice, uniform patina of age. The dashboard is in good condition, with typical age cracks, the center console and all interior equipment are well preserved with minimal signs of normal use. The dashboard retains the original instrumentation of the series, as well as the original steering wheel and gear knob. Before going on sale, a thorough sanitization of the entire cabin was carried out. MECHANICS The original engine was recently restarted after a long idle period in a private collection, including a revision of the fuel lines and a service of the K Jetronic injection, as well as a new battery. The clutch and automatic transmission also operate normally. The German TUV technical inspection expired in 2010. The car is operable, however as with any classic car, a normal inspection before regular use or long-distance driving is always recommended.
