Developed by Warakurna Artists with the Wanarn Aged Care Facility in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands of Western Australia, the programme situated artistic practice within aged care rather than apart from it, and functioned as a site for the transmission of Tjukurrpa to younger family members who visited during workshops. The three artists arrive at this late-career work from different histories. Mcarthur, born 1938 at Tutara, and Holland, born 1933 at Kiritjil, appear to have developed their painting practice largely within the Wanarn programme itself. Lewis, born 1927, belongs to an earlier generation, having begun painting in the 1990s through the Warburton Arts Project, and his contribution carries the weight of an already-established vocabulary returned to rather than a debut within it. What unites the three is not biography but a shared formal grammar, of banding, radiating structure, and accumulated dotting, held constant across the collection's uniform scale. Within that constraint each artist works a distinct colouristic and compositional logic, so that the same vocabulary yields divergent outcomes in every canvas. The collection reads less as a set of variations on a fixed theme than as evidence of a formal language still generative in its late iterations, capable, across three hands and three histories, of producing an almost endless possibility from a single grammar of mark and band. © Ben Holland / Copyright Agency, 2026 | © Neville Niypula McArthur / Copyright Agency, 2026 | © Tjunka Lewis / Copyright Agency, 2026
