Museum quality American Association baseball c.1883- A spectacular high grade example. Red and blue stitched baseball has bold and well defined "Reach" mark along with text reading in part, "American Association" and "Adopted By The American Association." In addition, a February 27, 1893 patent date is applied to the side panel. Condition is exemplary with the surface showing light toning (a touch more accentuated in areas) and all stamps/markings in generally the same state as the day they were placed. Rarity of any example cannot be overstated and when combined with its' extraordinary condition the offered presents an opportunity which may not come around again for decades. The American Association became the first serious rival of the National League in the later part of the 19th Century. Their success forced the powers that be to acknowledge that another major professional league could exist ands starting in 1884 the leading team of each would meet to play the forerunner of what has evolved into the modern World Series. Some of the early games' most notable stars spent time on American Association rosters including Charles Comiskey, Bid McPhee, Pud Galvin, Tim Keege, John Ward, and Mickey Welch. In nearly (3) decades we have handled only a scant few baseballs from this early period with the offered among the very finest known: EX/MT
