This impressive Moldavite shows an exceptionally strong green coloration, ranging from deep forest and olive green to bright emerald green hues depending on the incidence of light. Especially under stronger illumination, the piece reveals its pronounced translucence and develops a fascinating inner depth. A notable feature is the highly structured surface. Numerous rounded, interlocking depressions and elevations give Moldavite a distinctly plasticky texture. Alongside there are glassy-looking areas with typical flow and fracture structures. In transmitted light, these different structures become particularly evident and create a lively interplay of light, almost transparent parts and intensely saturated green zones. Moldavite belongs to the Tektite group and formed about 15 million years ago as a result of the colossal meteorite impact that shaped the Ries crater in southern Germany. The enormous energy released during the impact melted earthly rock material and was ejected over great distances. While flying through the atmosphere, the melt cooled and solidified into the characteristic green natural glass known today as Moldavite. This piece comes from the Czech Republic, the classic find area for Moldavite. Especially specimens with strong green color, good light transmittance, and clearly pronounced surface structure are particularly sought after among collectors. Due to the limited find areas and finite natural occurrences, high-quality Moldavite also holds a special status within Tektites and collectible minerals. Moldavite also enjoys an extraordinary reputation metaphysically. It is traditionally regarded as a stone of profound change, expanded consciousness, and personal development. It is attributed with an especially intense energy that is said to help dissolve entrenched patterns and open up new perspectives. A characterfully natural Moldavite rough piece, notable especially for its unusually plastic surface structure, the intense green coloration, and its impressive effect when viewed against the light.
