Unique Coincard in memory of the coronation riots in Amsterdam – 1980 No Home, No Crown A Turbulent Day full of Ideals Imagine it: Amsterdam on edge. It is April 30, 1980. While in the Nieuwe Kerk a new queen is being inaugurated, the streets fill with tension. Banners, slogans, sirens. What should have been a festive day turns into a confrontation between ideals and authority. The coronation of Beatrix takes place in a time of housing shortage, social inequality, and growing protest. For many, the coronation is not just a ceremony, but also a symbol. The slogan “No housing, no coronation” rings loud and clear. The city becomes the stage for clashes, barricades, and unrest. The coronation riots show how deep social tensions can run. Youth, squatters, and activists demand attention for their future. The government responds with force and order. Two worlds collide, visible to the whole country. This Coincard contains a tangible reminder of that day. A coin from 1980, simple and recognizable, yet laden with meaning. It is more than metal. It stands for a moment when democracy, protest, and authority met each other on the street. After April 30, 1980, not only damage remained, but also reflection. About housing. About participation. About how a society deals with discontent. The coronation riots mark a turning point in postwar Dutch history. This Coincard recalls a day that was raw and turbulent, but also showed that ideals keep living. A piece of the past in your hand. A city in motion. A history that rubs up against others. **** Serial numbers are issued randomly **** Unique-coincards, private edition.
