Oceania, New Zealand, Maori. A polished and straight nephrite pendant of kuru form, strung on a nylon cord. The pendant is carved from nephrite, the material known in New Zealand as pounamu. It has an elongated rectangular shape with softly rounded edges and ends, and it has a drilled suspension hole at the top. The polished surface shows deep green tones with lighter green mottling toward the lower end. Kuru were traditionally worn as ear or neck ornaments and were often kept and passed down within families. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 204533
