Born in 1958 in Ben Tre, an authentic village nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Robert is a Franco-Vietnamese artist whose work is distinguished by a singular fusion between Asian traditions and Western artistic influences. From a young age, he is fascinated by the rural architecture of his environment, the lines of traditional houses, the volumes of floating markets, the shadows cast by water palm trees — all elements that will form the basis of his visual language. Based in his homeland region, Nguyen Robert has, over decades, developed a deeply contemporary, modern and resolutely architectural style. His paintings explore structures, lines, urban rhythms and geometric abstraction, while preserving a poetic sensitivity intrinsic to Vietnamese culture. His dual heritage, Franco-Vietnamese, enriches his approach: he borrows from the West the rigor of modern compositions and the boldness of contrasts, while his Vietnamese soul injects gentleness, spirituality and fluidity into his works. The result is a pictorial universe where modernity meets timelessness, where geometry dialogues with light, creating paintings of great visual power. Recognized for his ability to transform everyday life into abstract landscapes, Nguyen Robert is today regarded as one of the singular voices of contemporary Delta Mekong painting.
