Type of jewel: Diamond-set bow pendant with chain. Condition: In well-preserved condition, especially given the age of the pendant's antique components. Style: Victorian, with an open ribbon bow, trailing ends and a slender central drop. Era: Circa 1850 (pendant components), with a later chain. Material: Gold-backed silver bow with an 18K gold central drop, touchstone tested. The chain is rolled gold (doublé), not solid gold. Extra information: The pendant is a marriage of elements from mid-19th-century jewels, brought together in its present bow-and-drop composition. The chain was added later, possibly replacing an earlier one. Diamonds: Thirty-three rose-cut and senaille-cut diamonds. Rose-cut and senaille-cut diamonds are traditionally described by number rather than by estimated weight, colour or clarity grades. Their varying and often irregular depth prevents reliable weight estimation while mounted, while formal colour and clarity grading is not customary in the trade for diamonds of these antique cutting styles. All diamonds in this pendant were individually tested with the Magilabs' EXA Natural Diamond Detector and identified as natural diamonds.
