Exceptional large and heavy miniature in the shape of an antique coal iron with accompanying original coaster/trivet. Fully executed in solid 925 sterling silver. This is a heavyweight within miniatures, crafted by the well-known Italian silversmith Medusa Oro from Arezzo, Italy. Specifications: • Weight: 73.8 grams - extremely heavy for a miniature • Iron dimensions: 6.2 cm long x 3.2 cm wide x 5.6 cm high (including handle) • Material: 925 / 1000 (first fineness silver) • Provenance: Italy, Arezzo, circa 1970-1990 • Maker mark: MEDUSA-ORO Special features & Craftsmanship: This is not a simple souvenir, but a true masterpiece by the silversmith. The iron is reproduced in exquisite detail: • Functional hinge coal-door at the rear with original latch closure. • Top plate with 5 decorative domed screws and ventilation holes. • Two heavily turned baluster coal columns with an original wooden roll-handle. • Hull with hand-engraved stripe decoration and faceted edges. • The accompanying large pierced-engraved Trivet / coaster on four ball feet. Sturdy, heavy construction. Original wooden handle intact. All hinges and closures 100% functional. No dents or repairs. This miniature is extremely rare for several reasons: 1. The weight: At 73.8 grams, this is one of the heaviest silver iron miniatures to reach the market. Standard miniatures on Catawiki weigh 10 to 25 grams. This weight proves it is a solid, thick-walled, small-batch handmade object, not a thin factory production. 2. The size: At 6.2 cm in length, this is a large miniature, almost twice as big as the usual 2.5-3.5 cm models. This size was produced far less. 3. Complete set: An iron with the original matching silver trivet is considerably rarer than a loose iron. Complete sets are offered only a few times a year at auctions.. 4. Working mechanism: The combination of a functional door, closure and wooden handle requires immense handwork. Production of this type of miniatures by Medusa Oro ceased decades ago and will not be resumed. A top piece for the serious collector of silver miniatures, dollhouse silver, and antique household curiosities. An opportunity that seldom presents itself in this weight and size.
