Alle Auktionen / Porzellan & Keramik / Norah Braden (British, 1901-2001), Small Bowl

Stoneware, layered grey and brown ash glazes over a wax resist iron chevron design, painted NB mark H 5.5cm, D 9.4cm PROVENANCE: Private Collection, West Sussex Norah Braden Collection REFERENCE: This lot, together with lots 45 and 46, were acquired when the present owner purchased Old Quarry Cottage, West Sussex, at auction in June 1975. Norah Braden had been the previous tenant of Old Quarry Cottage, which was part of the Duckyls Estate, a historic country property with landscaped gardens filled with rare plants from Asia planted during the 1920s and 1930s. Braden had left the property before the estate was sold in 1975. The present owner moved into the upper level of the house with his family, which was the part of the house that Norah Braden had previously occupied. The lower section of the house needed significant repair. Numerous wooden packing cases were found at the property and on opening one particularly heavy crate, these Norah Braden pots were discovered, together with a number of other works by the artist. The family have lived with the pots since that time, becoming a meaningful part of the family history. CONDITION: Perfect condition with no damage or restoratio ceramics
