NORTH. 1792. DOUAI. “The Citizens, Mayor, and Municipal Officers of the Commune of DOUAI. ” (Vignette: “Municipality of DOUAY. The Law. 1791.”) – Adopted at a municipal session on October 23, 1792, Year I of the Republic. “The days of alarm are over, dear Fellow Citizens; the land of Liberty is now purged of those devastating brigands who, not long ago, unleashed their fury upon a town neighboring ours, causing us to fear that DOUAI would suffer the same ravages that had befallen LILLE: but then the foresight of the brave and worthy MARASSÉ brought us to safety, and to achieve this, he took all the necessary precautions demanded by the circumstances… The War Council, in today’s session, declared that DOUAI IS IN A STATE OF WAR; BUT THAT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER A STATE OF SIEGE. Therefore, continue to work toward its defense…” Poster (48 x 36) Condition B
