Off Axis - Gilded Stillness – 1/1 – XL

Gilded Stillness by Off Axis – Artist’s Proof (EA) unique 1/1, XL on canvas There are moments when stillness itself becomes a form of dance. In Gilded Stillness, a ballerina has stepped back from movement. Seated in an intimate posture, legs folded against her and the toes still tied, she seems suspended between two gestures. Her gaze slightly averted suggests a moment of silent concentration, far from the stage and the audience’s gaze. Ivory, cream and gold hues wrap the composition in a soft light. The irregular surfaces of the background evoke an ancient, almost patinated material, while the golden touches bring a precious, contemporary dimension. Gilded Stillness is less about the performance than about what surrounds it: waiting, discipline, fatigue, concentration and these few seconds during which the dancer reverts to simply being herself. Between contemporary portrait, pictorial aesthetics and editorial photography, the work turns a moment of rest into an elegant, luminous and deeply contemplative scene. ⸻ Details of the work: • Title: Gilded Stillness • Format: XL – 46 × 66 cm • Border: 3 cm additional white border included • Edition: Artist’s Proof (EA) unique 1/1, distinct from the main limited edition of 6 numbered copies • Technique: Digital creation combining AI, digital painting, visual composition and manual retouching in Adobe Photoshop with a graphics tablet • Support: Professional print on premium canvas – no print on paper • Authenticity: Certificate of authenticity provided exclusively by email ⸻ Artistic and technical approach: The creation of Gilded Stillness rests on a digital process combining the use of AI as a creation tool with significant manual work of composition, painting and digital retouching by the artist. AI contributes to the development of the visual base. From this base, Off Axis personally continues the creation in Adobe Photoshop, with a graphics tablet, for several hours. The composition relies on a deliberately reduced palette of ivory, off-white, beige and gold. This almost monochromatic harmony allows the figure to integrate naturally into her environment while retaining an immediately identifiable presence. Choosing a seated ballerina deliberately breaks with traditional ballet representations based on elevation and movement. Here, Off Axis favors the moment between two performances, when the posture becomes more inward and the narration takes precedence over technical display. The golden textures rhythm the background without overloading it. Their irregular aspect dialogues with the light fabrics of the costume and the satin reflections of the pointe shoes, creating a sense of materiality and depth. Off Axis manually intervenes on the silhouette, volumes, materials, textures, light, fabrics, contours, colors and contrasts, painting, correcting and rebuilding certain areas until the desired visual balance is reached. Special attention is given to the face, hands, costume, pointe shoes and to the gold and patinated textures of the environment to preserve the pictorial coherence of the whole. AI thus constitutes one of the tools used in the creative process, while the final appearance of the work also results from several hours of intervention, digital painting and artistic choices made manually by Off Axis. The light, soft and enveloping, subtly structures the face, hands and costume volumes. The overall aim is a balance between Fine Art portrait, contemporary painting and conceptual photography. ⸻ About the edition: The piece offered for sale is a unique Artist’s Proof (EA) 1/1. This EA is a distinct copy and is not one of the 6 numbered copies of the main limited edition. This presentation clearly identifies the specific status of the offered work and differentiates the Artist’s Proof from the numbered edition. ⸻ Presentation and delivery: • Professional print on premium canvas – no print on paper • Work sold unmounted, without frame or stretcher • 3 cm additional white border allowing mounting on a frame • Shipped carefully protected in a rigid tube • Certificate of authenticity sent exclusively by email ⸻ About the artist – Off Axis: Off Axis develops a visual universe blending contemporary emotion, pictorial influences and immersive compositions. Their creative process combines AI used as a creation tool, digital composition, digital painting and manual interventions in Adobe Photoshop with a graphics tablet. Each work is individually refined to develop its atmosphere, light, materials and visual identity. Their work explores the boundaries between conceptual photography, portraiture, editorial aesthetics, and visual storytelling. The figures are often captured in suspended moments where posture, light and setting collectively contribute to building a story. Through this approach, Off Axis seeks to create visually striking works that are still open enough to allow the viewer their own interpretation.
