Old mask - vuvi - Gabon (No reserve price)

Vuvi mask A wooden mask with a slightly concave oval face coated in white kaolin, featuring a prominent vertical brow ridge and narrow slit eyes. The surface shows natural flaking and chalky degradation consistent with age and ceremonial use in Bwiti society rituals. The minimalist geometric design prioritizes symbolic abstraction over anatomical detail. These Vuvi masks serve as agents through whom ancestral spirits reappear during funeral ceremonies and solemn communal gatherings. Signs of use. See photos. Provenance: van Landewijk collection (Netherlands) 28x 24x 8cm 700gr
