Old Near Eastern Lapis Lazuli Intaglio Seal - Height...

Intaglio seals, historically used across ancient cultures such as Egypt, Greece, and Rome, are intricately carved gemstones or materials with recessed designs. When pressed into soft substances like wax or clay, these seals create raised impressions, often depicting scenes of mythology, heraldry, or personal symbols. They were commonly used to authenticate documents or as personal adornments in the form of rings or pendants. Intaglio seals are sometimes considered to carry symbolic power, with specific designs used to invoke protection, authority, or connection to particular deities. Worn or used in personal rituals, they can serve as talismans for focus and intent. Whether appreciated for their historical authenticity, artistic value, or symbolic meaning, intaglio seals continue to be valued for their craftsmanship and the unique impressions they create. Registered, insured and well protected shipping. Stand not included.
