Rare (1952) The Thousand and One Nights illustrated by Gradassi. Art binding, binding signed by P. Giraud, deluxe edition numbered copy 2474 on superb cream vellum paper from Papeteries du Marais. Contains 5 original copper engravings by Jean Gradassi, the colors have been entirely hand-enhanced by master illuminator Edmond Vairel. Art binding signed by P. Giraud, half-bordeaux chagrin leather. The inner boards are dressed with decorative paper featuring a gray and white foliage motif; the inner corners are adorned with gold tooling. The covers and the original soft spine from the Rombaldi collection are fully preserved and visible inside; spine with 5 false raised bands with pieces and the title in fine gold. Magnificent wide Bordeaux frame adorned with a double cold filet enriched with decorative motifs; at the center a rectangular cream paper panel framed by a fine gold filet, magnified at the four corners by gilded irons with an oriental arabesque motif. The covers and the original soft spine from the Rombaldi collection are fully preserved and visible inside; upper edge gilded in fine gold; lateral and lower edges gilded… exceptional freshness, paper very clean, white; the colors in stenciling remain highly vibrant. Bordeaux chagrin leather very well preserved, solid structure, very slight wear of natural use on the spine. A complete, authentic, and unique whole thanks to the combined work of Gradassi, Vairel, & Giraud.
