Pair of Large Fossil Scallops on Matrix - Fossilised...

Pair of Large Chlamys latissima Fossil Scallops on Matrix – Miocene An impressive pair of fossil scallop shells belonging to the species Chlamys latissima, dating from the Miocene epoch, approximately 5 to 23 million years ago. Preserved together in their original sedimentary matrix, these two specimens form a beautiful natural composition with remarkable sculptural presence. Both shells display the characteristic broad, fan-shaped morphology of the species, with gently radiating ribs and delicate concentric growth lines preserved across their surfaces. Their overlapping arrangement creates an attractive sense of depth, highlighting the different proportions and natural contours of each fossil. The specimens exhibit soft ivory, chalky white, and pale cream tones, with subtle beige and faint greyish areas. Natural fractures, small surface irregularities, and traces of sediment remain visible, reflecting their long geological history. The reverse side reveals the rough, textured sedimentary matrix, contrasting beautifully with the more clearly defined shells on the front and offering an interesting perspective on their fossil preservation. The pair is presented on the clear acrylic display stand shown in the photographs, making it particularly suitable for a natural history collection or elegant interior display. A distinctive example of prehistoric marine life, combining paleontological interest with the natural elegance of fossilized shells. An attractive addition to fossil collections, museum-style displays, or a refined cabinet of curiosities.
