Patti Smith / Annie Leibovitz 1978 Arista Promo Shop Display An exceptionally rare, original cardboard shop display from 1978, issued by Arista Records to promote Patti Smith’s groundbreaking album Easter. The display measures 54 x 34 cm and is adorned with a reproduction of Annie Leibovitz’s iconic Rolling Stone cover photo (issue no. 270, July 27, 1978). See the penultimate photo. The top half shows an image of Patti Smith standing in front of flames, with the caption “Patti Smith Catches Fire.” The bottom half features a laudatory quote from Dave Marsh of Rolling Stone: “The magic of ‘Easter’ is undeniable. It is transcendent and fulfilled. Patti Smith is one of the great figures of Seventies rock & roll.” Small thumbnails of album covers in the bottom right highlight her essential Arista catalog: Horses (1975), Radio Ethiopia (1976), and Easter (1978). The shop display is Good to Fine. This fleeting collectible has been kept in remarkably good condition. Crucial is that the original cardboard stand (the easel) on the back is still present and completely unused (see the last photo). The display shows light, age-related edge wear, mild creases at the top left and right corners from handling, and a light vintage fading of the pink border section. The colors remain vivid and the graphic portion is entirely free of water damage, stains, cracks, or scratches. Dimensions: 54 cm x 34 cm
