Pencil Urchin with Long Spines Taxidermy full body mount...

Cidaris cidaris – Pencil Urchin with Long Spines – Natural Specimen A striking specimen of Cidaris cidaris, commonly known as the Pencil Urchin, distinguished by its exceptionally long primary spines and highly sculptural radial form. The specimen retains numerous slender spines extending outward from the central test in an impressive starburst arrangement. Their pale cream to delicate pink coloration gives the piece a refined appearance, while the shorter secondary spines and natural marine encrustations around the test add further texture and complexity. Close inspection reveals the characteristic structure of the Cidaridae, with prominent tubercles supporting the primary spines and a robust central test surrounded by a combination of long, rigid elements and finer secondary structures. Several of the spines also retain small natural marine growths, emphasizing the specimen’s authentic underwater history. Its open, architectural silhouette makes this an especially eye-catching echinoderm specimen, attractive both from a scientific and decorative perspective. As with all sea urchins of this type, the long spines are naturally fragile and some show minor losses or irregularities. Please examine the photographs carefully for the exact condition of the specimen. An unusual natural history piece ideal for an echinoderm collection, cabinet of curiosities or sophisticated marine display. Delicate specimen, handle with care.
