GRAVES FOR ALESSI The American architect and designer Michael Graves (born 1934, Indianapolis, USA) developed this “Mantel Clock” in 1986 for the leading Italian design company Alessi. Launched in 1988, it was acclaimed for its postmodern interpretation of classical design, with four ebonized columns in a Tuscan style supporting a square fronton and the clock dial. Graves commented on the project in 1988: 'In designing the mantel clock, I was interested in exploring the established tradition of viewing artifacts as miniature architectures. There are countless examples of furniture and artefacts inside interiors as idealized objects that draw their primary cues from proportional architectural systems. I have always been fascinated by the ambiguity that arises between these hints of “interior buildings” and their external precedents.' (Alessi: the design factory, Academia Editions, 1998, p93) It ships with specially careful packaging included in the shipping cost. I would be happy to assist you after purchase with any information regarding the purchase of this stunning and rare object!
