Artist Biography: Pep Camps (Pals, Girona, 1954) is a Catalan landscape painter who has devoted a large part of his career to capturing the essence of the Costa Brava, notable for his iconic representations of Cadaqués and his post-Impressionist and luminist seascapes. Style and Artistic Characteristics: Camps’s style stands out for a deep sensitivity to the Catalan maritime landscape, characterized by the following visual traits: • Geometry and compositional serenity: He structures his works by dividing the canvas into balanced planes. In the foreground he often places rounded, corpulent elements (such as traditional fishing boats), which guide the eye toward the calm water and the white silhouette of the coastal towns in the background. • Diffused light and glazing: Unlike direct, dazzling sun, Camps tends to opt for a soft light of late afternoon or the early hours of the morning. He uses carefully graded tonal transitions and subtle glazes that blur the sky and the mountains, achieving a humid, melancholic atmosphere that is typically Mediterranean. • Cool palette with focal accents: His canvases predominantly feature bluish grays, blue-greens of the Tramuntana sea, and pearly whites of the facades. He breaks the chromatic sobriety with vibrant, pure touches on the grounded boats (such as intense reds or olive greens), concentrating visual weight and vitality on the shore.
