Publication year: An XI (1802 for Volume I / 1803 for Volumes II and III) Place of printing: Paris Publisher / Printer: Chez J. A. Brosson, Libraire / De l'Imprimerie de Feugueray Number of volumes: 3/3 (Complete work in three volumes) Binding: Full calf antique with double edgings (red and dark green), titles and numbering in gold, ornaments and gold punches along the spines. Language: French HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE AND PARTICULARITIES OF THE COPY Monumental cornerstone in the history of medicine and modern psychiatry written by Philippe Pinel, pioneer of anatomo-clinical method and renowned physician of the Hospice de la Salpêtrière in Paris. In this work Pinel applies Condillac's analytic philosophy to the systematic classification of diseases. Strengths of this lot: 1. Autograph signature from the seller (typical of the era to prevent forgeries) 2. Fold-out Synoptic Plate: Inserted out of text and perfectly preserved the large fold-out plate with the “Tableau Synoptique de la classe des fièvres primitives.” CONDITION REPORT Bindings (External): Original full leather hard bindings. The covers show clear, classic signs of age and handling, with abrasions, superficial leather flaking and wear concentrated at the corners and edges (as documented by the photographs). The spines remain solid and well-structured, with gilt lettering clearly visible and legible and slight defects at the headcaps. Interior (Pages and Text Block): Internally the work is in excellent preserved condition. The text block is solid, compact and firmly bound to the binding. There are no stains or large foxing inside, only occasional and physiological yellowing due to the paper of the period. The pages are fresh, with original margins well preserved. The fold-out plate out of text is intact, without tears and with visible period edges/cuts. NOTES FOR THE BUYER Complete work in all parts, of extreme collectible and bibliophilic value due to the author's autograph signature.
