Original vintage Philippine national flag, rendered in blue, red and white with the distinctive golden sun and three stars. The design of the Philippine flag dates back to 1898. The flag was hoisted for the first time during the Battle of Alapan on May 28, 1898 and officially unfurled during the Philippines' declaration of independence on June 12, 1898. Philippine Historical Sites The golden sun stands for freedom and independence, and the three stars for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The design remains the basis of the current Philippine national flag.
