PHOTO 1947 — Arts et Métiers Graphiques Paris, Éditions Arts et Métiers Graphiques, 18 rue Séguier, 1947. Large quarto, spiral-bound album with a black cardboard cover illustrated in color based on a design by J. L. Ermisse; unpaginated. First edition of this remarkable photographic yearbook, the final volume in the famous series published by Arts et Métiers Graphiques. The Rijksmuseum lists it as a photographic “yearbook” published in Paris in 1947; the AMG series of photographic albums comprises eleven volumes published between 1930 and 1947. Introduction by Pierre Scize. The book brings together 115 photographs, mainly reproduced by heliogravure, along with several color reproductions. A superb international selection featuring some of the great names in photography of the era: Ansel Adams, Brassaï, Bill Brandt, Robert Doisneau, Izis, Irving Penn, Willy Ronis, Laure Albin-Guillot, George Platt-Lynes, Fritz Henle, René-Jacques, Emmanuel Sougez, etc. The photographs, generally reproduced full-page, attest to the graphic and typographic excellence of Arts et Métiers Graphiques’ publications. This copy notably features compositions by Georges Karquel, Y. Sauvageot, and René-Jacques. Condition: complete copy, well-preserved inside. Cover shows significant wear, with scuffs, scratches, small tears, and wear on the corners and edges; a few small superficial tears. The spiral binding appears complete and functional. Small old pencil annotation on the title page.
