An impressive piece of craftsmanship that perfectly combines functionality and classic style. About the brand and dating (Period): The Picard brand was founded in Germany in 1948 by brothers Alois and Lothar Picard and is worldwide known for its excellent quality leather goods and high-quality manual finishing. Given the style of the logo, the use of the luxurious jacquard lining with woven motif, and the authentic shop label, this bag is likely from the 1970s to 1980s (the heyday of high-quality artisanal travel and leather goods). This specific bag was purchased at the iconic, renowned Amsterdam leather goods store De Grote Tas (D. Zaal), located at Oude Hoogstraat 6 in Amsterdam — a fixture among enthusiasts of exclusive bags and travel accessories both in the Netherlands and abroad. The original shop label is still proudly attached to the inside of the bag. Materials and Manufacture: Exterior: Made from heavy, supple full-grain leather with a rich, dark brown / Bordeaux color and a stunning crocodile print relief. The bottom is fitted with metal protective feet. Closing and Hardware: The bag features a heavy, solid brass-colored metal hinge frame. Interior: Lined with a durable, silky jacquard fabric bearing the Picard logo and motif. The interior includes a spacious zippered inner compartment for smaller valuable items. The Special Hinged Closure: The absolute highlight of this bag is the ingenious and robust steel/brass frame brace. Thanks to the unique hinge system, the bag opens along its full length and width, making the opening a full 23 cm wide and the contents immediately fully visible and accessible. The frame can be securely locked. Dimensions and Weight: Length: 65 cm Width: 40 cm Height: 45 cm Opening (open): 23 cm wide Weight: 2620 grams (solid and robust quality) Condition: The bag is in good, authentic vintage condition with light, characteristic signs of wear that befit its age and the quality of the leather (see photos). The zipper operates smoothly, the hinge mechanism works perfectly, and the lining is neat. A stunning, rare large object for the enthusiast, collector, or as a stylish focal point in a classic interior or shop! Shipping and Packaging: This lot is packaged with the utmost care and protection to ensure safe worldwide delivery. Due to its size (65 cm) and weight over 2.6 kg, the bag is securely surrounded by protective material and double-walled packaging to arrive undamaged and in full glory to the buyer. Shipping takes place with tracking and insurance. Ps: The wine bottle is used to indicate the size and is not part of the lot.
