Portrait of Noble Lady - French School of Pierre Mignard (1612 - 1695)

Descriptio Distinguished and decorative oil on canvas. Measures 81 x 64 cm (unframed) and 100 x 83 cm (framed). This aristocratic half-length portrait depicts a lady of the court, identified as a member of the circle of François Marie d’Orléans, set against a rich, dark background that intensifies the figure’s presence. The face, with its restrained and elegant expression, is complemented by an elaborate treatment of the clothing, where ample folds, transparencies, and delicate chromatic nuances underscore the sitter’s social status. The composition adheres to the canons of French court portraiture, with a careful arrangement of the figure and a balance between solemnity and refinement. The painting is notable for the softness of the modeling, the harmonious use of color, and the attention to textile details, placing the work within the 18th-century French tradition, in which portraiture became a vehicle for social representation, distinction, and visual elegance. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed.
